CRIME & FATHERS

Here’s the story as reported on Fox News:  4 Charged In Gang Rape, Beating of Girl After Homecoming Dance

It seems that criminal activity gets worse all the time but crimes like these have happened for years.  In today’s world, however, they get much more media attention and they strike closer to my heart as I have kids of my own.  What a tragedy.  Things like this should never happen to anyone.  Combine the twisted minds of a few teens, alcohol, and no supervision and you have a sin filled mess.  I am reminded of the last verse in the book of Judges “In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit.”  People are sinful and when they act out of a wicked heart I should not be surprised.  When left to our own devices we all choose some level of sin and it is only the grace of God which saves us.  I must realize that in my own humanity I am no better than the criminals but the good news is that we all have a Savior in Jesus Christ who died to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If you are a parent reading this, I would encourage all of us to do everything we can to protect our children.  Go the extra mile when you drop your kids off and when you pick them up.  Be overly cautious.  Keep the lines of communication open between you.  Spend time with your kids when they are young so that you will have input into their lives when they are older.  Monitor what they watch.  Train them in the ways of the Lord.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY:  Fathers, get off the couch and train your sons to treat women with respect and love, to work hard, to help others, to love the Lord, and to be protectors of righteousness in the world around them.  Unfortunately, too many fathers are selfish and have abandoned the family.  They have allowed the world to raise their sons and through their example have trained their sons to do whatever will bring them the most pleasure at the most convenient moment.  Please fathers, take a moment and call your kids, text your kids, email your kids, go home early to your kids, and do whatever it takes to save them from the world which will chew them up and destroy them.

  1. When I watch the news and see stories like this, I feel the need to stand up and say something just as you have. Too many times I see actions without consequences, selfish, self-indulgent behavior on the part of parents and children alike. It makes me angry beyond reason. I don’t understand why righteousness and virtue have fallen “out of fashion”.

  2. Well said, Dawson. Sickening, heart wrenching and extremely sad to say the least. Thanks for setting a great “Dad” example in your own life and for challenging men in your sphere of influence to step into a more active role with their own children.
